In this blog post I will show you how we made this bird handprint card – I have included the card template below and so you can make this at home!
My youngest daughter, Amelia-Jayne needed to make a quick little thank you card for a gift today and this is what we created!
This bird handprint can be turned in to a lovely little birthday card for mum or Grandma which will be treasured for years. Don’t forget to add your little ones name and age to make a lovely keepsake.
How to make your Bird Handprint Card:
You Will Need
-CLick here to download and print our nest card template or use plain A4 card
-Purple Washable Paint
-Red Washable Paint
-White Washable Paint
-Yellow Marker Pen
-Black Marker Pen
We are currently using the Crayola Washable Kids paints – we love them.
I also highly recommend Giotto pens, always super washable in my opinion the best and easiest to clean!

Instructions
First get your A4 piece of card ready or download and print our card template above, fold the template in half.
Choose two contrasting coloured paint – I let Amelia-Jayne choose and she went for red and purple.
Paint your childs hand, half in one colour and half in the other colour – I recommend starting with the lighter colour.
If using our template position the hand and so the bottom of the hand is touching the nest (the bird sat in the nest).
Once you have your print it is time to turn it into a bird!
Use your yellow marker pen to draw a beak, and the black marker pen to add an eye. We then did a white fingerprint over the black to finish the eye off.
Really simple and effective!
Remember to add your childs name and age to the card.
Perfect to give as a birthday card, mothers day card or thank you card.
Make this bird handprint card into your own by using different colour paints, printing onto coloured card (a light blue card would look lovely!) and you could use googly sticky eyes rather than a pen eye.
We also experimented with different backgrounds – see our bird in a heart with finger print flowers below!
If you love your bird handprint card why not get a matching ceramic coaster or mug – perfect for grandparents birthday gifts! Simply scan or take a photograph of the artwork and we will print it on to your mug or coaster!
We would love to see your bird handprint cards – upload your photos in the comments or #ceramicdoodles on instagram, or pop on to facebook to show us!
